How can social media help you discover and share healthy recipes?

With so many of us starting the new year with goals of getting healthy, I’ve sometimes turned to social media for ideas. Although TikTok's availability has been in question recently, all is not lost. As a long-time subscriber to Facebook, I’ve stumbled upon a barrage of videos that pop up daily, demonstrating ways to make appealing snacks and desserts. The cool thing is that some of these videos are no more than a minute long, with hosts talking and demonstrating their way through fairly simple recipes that require some basic items: a high-speed blender and/or food processor, a large bowl, and then one or more of the following—bananas, cocoa powder, peanut butter, rolled oats, apples, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, baking powder, and chocolate chips (of course!).


The more videos I see, the more I’ve noticed that there are numerous recipes from different folks, each with variations on how these ingredients are used to create tasty meals. Now, I’m not saying that all these recipes will enthrall your sweet tooth. However, as one content creator stated, his recipes mimic those laden with sugar and probably satisfy 60% of his cravings for less healthy alternatives. So, I’ve stocked up our fridge and cupboards with some of the items I listed above. I’ve also figured out how to save the reels (that’s how Facebook refers to them) and now have a couple dozen or so recipes to try out over the next couple of months!
